How it works
- Step 1
Photograph it
Open Plans or Grocery, tap Scan a list, and take a picture of the board. Up to ten photos go into one scan, so a long board or a handful of sticky notes still count as one list.
- Step 2
Check every line
The import screen shows each line it read, whether it took it for a meal or a grocery, and the recipe or pantry item it matched. Crossed-out lines start unchecked. Nothing is added until you tap Add.
- Step 3
It’s on your plan and your list
Meals land on the plan that covers this week, on the day you wrote next to them. Groceries join your list, merged with anything already on it and sorted by department.
What it reads
Meals and groceries, sorted for you
“Tacos” is a meal; “2 gal milk” is something to buy. Headings like “Dinners” or “Store” help, but it works without them, and a board with both gives you both.
Day labels land on the right day
“Tue – tacos” goes onto Tuesday in the plan that covers this week. No plan yet? MealHuddle starts one in your usual rhythm.
Crossed-out lines are skipped
Already grabbed it and struck it through? It shows on the import screen unchecked, so nothing you finished comes back.
Quantities come along
“2 gal milk” becomes milk, 2, gallons, and merges with milk if it is already on your list instead of adding a second line.
Matched to your recipes and pantry
A meal that names a recipe you saved links to it. A grocery line that names a pantry item links to it, with the right store department.
The review screen
Handwriting is handwriting, so every scan ends here before anything is added. On the review screen you can:
- Rename a line it misread
- Flip a line between meal and grocery
- Unlink a wrong recipe or pantry match
- Pick the day a meal lands on
- Fix a quantity or unit
- Leave a line out
- Treat the whole board as meals, or as groceries
Good to know
- Reading is only as good as the photo. Straight-on, in decent light, with the whole board in frame works best.
- Messy handwriting may need a rename on the review screen. That screen exists so nothing wrong slips onto your list.
- Nothing is added until you confirm. Close the review and nothing changes.
- Up to ten photos per scan.

Questions
- Does it work on handwriting?
- Yes, that is the point. It reads marker on a whiteboard, pen on a notepad, sticky notes, printed lists, and screenshots of typed lists. Messy handwriting is read as well as it can be, and the import screen is where you fix anything it got wrong before it is added.
- Is it accurate?
- Accurate enough to save the typing, not so accurate that we skip the review. Every scan ends on an import screen that shows each line, its guessed kind, and what it matched, and you confirm before anything lands on your plan or list.
- What if the board has meals and groceries mixed together?
- It sorts them: dishes become meals, purchasable items become groceries. If it guesses wrong, one tap flips a line, and a switch at the top treats the whole board as meals or groceries.
